While the world contemplates what “might be” between now and 2012, maybe we should look more closely at WHAT IS! And as importantly to what IS, do we have a clue as to what we are doing to ourselves (can you say shooting ourselves in the foot?) that’s not very good at all?
So we have mined the human genome and we think we know what 10% of our DNA is good and what 90% is junk! Do you think God would create 90% of our DNA for no purpose?
We’ve discovered bacteria, virus agents, and now we’re on to understanding subtle energies. But, what do we do with what it is that we learn? We’ve created antibiotic cures and we abuse the gift to the point where drug-resistant bacteria is becoming one of our greatest problems. One of the most serious hospital problems is known as MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria). Let’s just stick with MRSA. 
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says that 35-40% of the one hundred and fifty million annual prescriptions for antibiotics are unnecessary!
We’re confining animals to such small spaces (animals that we slaughter for food) that they’re developing diseases left and right. Our answer is to feed pigs, cows, and farm fish antibiotics which we later consume. More and more diseases are cropping up as a result- from food we eat.
And then there’s what’s called horizontal gene transfer! I mean, do we really need apples with stronger skins? I’ve been peeling the skin off already, thank you very much. However, in order to ward off all those pesky insects and diseases that attack “thin-skinned” apples, we’re inserting pig genes into the apples to give the apples stronger skins. Talk about Frankenstein stuff! Where are we going with all of this genetic tampering?
Maybe to a 2012 meltdown from some disease we create by 2012? Could be!
As a spiritual-futurist, I have a BA degree majoring in history. One cannot know the future without knowing the past which holds clues to what is on the horizon. The world is in such a rapid expansion of knowledge that we are close to entering a tipping point that will forever change earth as we know it.
