Genetic Memory?

by "The Librarian" on November 20, 2009

Hello Biologists
I need some assistance, for a biology report I’m doing, I’ve decided to do it on “Genetic memory” which is the theory that our ancestors memories and such is passed down to us.
If any of you have an insight into this particular field, as I’m quite an amateur at it, it would be very helpful.

AFAIK, there is no evidence for genetic memory. Not in the way that you mean, I think.
There’s no known way for your memories to be encoded into your genes and passed on to your children. Moreover, what we know about memory and genetics makes it exceedingly unlikely this could occur.
The only real sense in which ‘genetic memory’ exists is that your genes carry modifications, mutations, etc. that occurred in your parents germ cells, and in their parents, and so on. That’s not memory in the conventional sense, though.

Genetic memory is a pretty hard topic.
You already stated the basic theory behind it yourself. But if you want to do a report on it then, hehe, well meh.
Don’t.
Genetic memory is a novel theory, I guess you could explain the theory behind it but anything more than that would require a detailed knowledge of genetics and heredity.
